5th International Conference on Fractals and Dynamic Systems in Geosciences

New Deadline for Abstract submission and early bird registration - 1st July!

13-14th August 2009, Jupiter's Hotel, Townsville, Australia

Applications to Resource and Risk Assessment

Fractals, multifractals, non-linear processes and dynamic systems are increasingly important ways to analyse data and understand processes in Earth and environmental sciences. Assessment and management of resources and risk are benefiting especially from these techniques. The aim of this conference is to present the latest research and techniques in fractals and dynamic systems with emphasis on rock deformation, mineral and hydrocarbon resources and risks posed by Earth systems. Fractures, fabrics, fluid flow and instabilities in deformed rocks will be covered. Applications to resources could include mineral potential mapping and evaluation, predicting the size and number of undiscovered hydrocarbon reservoirs, mineral processing, geothermal energy, and environmental conservation. Areas of risk include climate (cyclone/hurricane forecasting, paleoclimates, climate change), volcanoes, earthquakes, landscape hazards, floods and wildfires. The conference also welcomes general contributions on applications of fractals and dynamic systems in the Earth and environmental Sciences, as for the previous four successful conferences in this series.

The conference venue overlooks the Coral Sea with views of the Islands, and will be experiencing the beautiful weather of the cool season in the Tropics.
