A guide to rental properties

Descriptions of the properties listed on the Off Campus Database can often be confusing. Please use explanations below to guide you.

House

A detached dwelling with 2-6 bedrooms and a front and backyard.

Flat (also called Duplex, Maisonette or unit)

Dwellings with 2-3 bedrooms, sharing a common wall, usually with a small front and backyards. Usually in groups of 2.

Townhouse

Attached dwellings with 2-3 bedrooms, in a row of 3 or more. Usually 2 storeys, (upstairs, downstairs) with fenced front and/or back courtyards.

Apartment (also called unit)

1 floor dwelling with 1-3 bedrooms, in buildings of 2 or more storeys. No yard space.

Granny flat

A small, self contained dwelling with 1-2 bedrooms. On the same property as a house, located either underneath or detached from main building. Usually fully self contained with kitchen and bathroom and toilet, with own, separate entrance. Share yard and facilities on property (eg. pool, laundry) with main house and occupants.
