Dear Member,

This will be the last Playlab bulletin for the year, as our office closes
this Friday, December 16. We will reopen for business on February 1st
in the New Year. The close of the year means we bring you a
relatively spare bulletin this time around.

Kathryn and I would like to offer our sincere thanks for your support in
2005 and your understanding during the changes the organisation has
undergone. We look forward to bringing you a revitalised Playlab in
2006, with some exciting new plans and projects in the pipeline
(details of one such program, Fragments, can be found below).

Wishing you all the best for a safe, restful and inspirational break,

Abi Dennis
Program Manager

NEWS/OPPORTUNITIES

PLAYLAB, BACKBONE YOUTH ARTS AND METRO ARTS PRESENT

Calling young playwrights aged between 14 and 25… Backbone Youth
Arts is joining forces with Playlab, Queensland's peak script
development body and Metro Arts, the Arts centre in the heart of the
city, to develop and present four new plays by young writers. The
plays will be presented in a season of short works titled Fragments, at
the Metro Arts performance space.

Fragments provides a unique opportunity for young writers to work
with some of Queensland's most respected industry professionals.
Each writer will be paired with an industry mentor who specialises in
script development. The scripts will then be rehearsed and staged by
young directors and creative teams in collaboration with working
theatre professionals.

works. Hone your writing skills in a fun, friendly environment

o A detailed treatment (description) of a play together with at least
one scripted scene.

o You must be aged between 14 and 25
o You must be prepared to develop your script (perfect plays won't
benefit from this process)

What to send:
Please forward two [2] copies of your script or treatment for
consideration together with a brief synopsis (single paragraph).

Scripts should be in the following format:
o A cover page which has the title of the play, your name and your
contact details
o typed pages no smaller than 11 point
o single sided
o each page should be numbered
o secure with a bulldog or paper clip. Please don't staple or bind your
work, we will need to photocopy the applications to distribute to the
steering committee.

Scripts and treatments submitted for consideration in Fragments will
not be returned. Please forward your scripts to:
