Introduction:   The Sugar Research and Development Corporation encourages researchers to submit expressions of interest for research projects to commence from July, 2009.

Research project targets for this call are as follows:

  • Mitigating risks of climate change, and facilitating adaptation to climate change and variability
  • Delivering opportunities for the sugarcane industry
  • Reducing production costs and/or improving the utilisation of capital and other resources for cane farming, harvesting and milling
  • Increasing uptake of improved technologies and improving decision-making by industry enterprises
  • Developing improved sugarcane varieties
  • Reducing risks of exotic biosecurity threats, and improving management of endemic pests and weeks, including risks enhanced by climate change
  • Implementing advances in precision agriculture technologies to deliver improved economic and environmental outcomes in sugarcane farming systems

SRDC requires partnership projects involving industry, researchers and/or community members.

Introduction:   The World Cancer Research Fund International is now inviting outline applications worldwide to fund research into the effects of food, nutrition and physical activity on cancer.  Preference will be given to applications that have direct relevance to human cancer – consider diets or foods as a whole and/or use whole body systems, and use foods or dietary constituents in physiological amounts.

Introduction:   World Community Grid invites application to use its powerful grid technology at no cost for projects that benefit humanity.  Grid technology enables researchers to access tremendous amounts of power, exceeding that of several supercomputers, to run complex computations and to accelerate the pace of their research.  Research results must be made available to the global research community and will be made available on World Community Grid’s web site.

Introduction:   The Australian Academy of Science offers the 2009 Award for Research on the Conservation of Endangered Australian Vertebrate Species for research on endangered Australian vertebrate species (endangered either locally or nationally) with the objective of understanding the causes of their decline and with a view to instituting, or improving, the management of the conditions necessary for the species’ recovery.

Introduction:   The Australian Lions Foundation requests applications from PhD, Masters or Honours students who commenced their degree in 2006 or later and research in the area of Marine Species Dangerous to Humans.  Priority will be given to PhD students.

Key Criteria;

  • relevant to understanding the ecology of stingers
  • relevant to the identification of stingers in the field and/or during diagnosis of patients
  • relevant to the diagnosis of jellyfish syndromes and the treatment of patients
  • relevant to north Queensland and Torres Strait waters

Introduction:   The William Procter Prize for Scientific Achievement has been awarded annually to a scientist who has made an outstanding contribution to scientific research and has demonstrated an ability to communicate the significance of this research to scientists in other disciplines

VISITS AND EXCHANGES

Introduction:   The ICE WaRM International Visits and Exchanges Programme provides an opportunity to industry, vocational education and training and the tertiary education sector and research communities for increased engagement at an international level in the area of water resources management education.

Participants on short to medium term visits and exchanges will be able to share skills, knowledge and experiences that will benefit the individual, their home and host organisations and ICE WaRM to enhance the field of water resources management.

The ICE WaRM International Visits and Exchanges Programme aims to:

·               enhance the professional development, technical skills and expertise of participants through a variety of learning and skill development opportunities;

·               enable the exchange of scientific information and work on research projects in fields of mutual interest;

·               encourage the exchange of ideas on best practice within water-related fields;

·               showcase new initiatives in water-related fields;

·               engage participants in lectures, seminars, conferences, colloquia and symposia; and

·               promote ICE WaRM and establish / strengthen relationships between ICE WaRM and organisations involved in water resources management throughout the world.

Introduction:   Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation provides funds to support travel to conferences and workshops that benefit RIRDC industries.

Funds may be provided to:

  • provide financial assistance for researchers to present research results to relevant forums

Introduction:   Three new Sugar Research and Development Corporation funded scholarships are available to foster postgraduate training in technical or social disciplines relevant to SRDC’s research priorities.

Scholarship Project Proposals may be for PhD, Masters, Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate.  SRDC will consider part time scholarships for course work studies.
