Overview

Description:

JCU offers world-class postgraduate management education to prepare current and future generations of managers. The programs provide advanced knowledge, understanding and analytical skills for managing in the twenty-first century. This involves using a wide range of knowledge and research from the social sciences, applied sciences and humanities to develop interdisciplinary and thematic frameworks that will enable managers to successfully analyse, strategically plan and implement decisions. At JCU the Master of Business Administration degree can either be a general MBA that provides a broad management education and training covering all of the major aspects of business administration or an MBA with a Major, which provides a range of essential general management skills but with a substantial focus upon a particular industry or occupation.

Normal workload expectations are a minimum of 10 hours per week for every subject, including class contact hours, preparation and time spent on assessment tasks.

MBA Award Requirement

Students are required to successfully complete twelve 3-credit point postgraduate business administration subjects. Thirty-six credit points of study are required to obtain the award of Master of Business Administration. Selection of subjects must be made from the MBA subject list:

Students may request to replace mo more than two of the subjects on the MBA Schedule with others selected from the various MBA majors. Note that all majors are taught at all campuses.

Majors

Students wishing to pursue a major within the MBA can request to substitute ANY FOUR of the subjects listed in the MBA subject list with FOUR 3-credit point postgraduate subjects in an approved major from a School or College within the University or from an approved external campus, such as JCU Singapore or other recognised institutions. Approval by the Faculty of Law, Business and the Creative Arts and by the School/College in which the four specialised subjects will be undertaken must be given prior to the student commencing these subjects.

Entry Requirements

Australian students

Direct entry into the MBA and MBA with a Major requires an undergraduate degree in any discipline or a Graduate Diploma of Business Administration . While it is also preferable to have several years of work and management experience, it is not a compulsory entry requirement for the degree. The entry requirements for the Graduate Certificate of Business Administration are either a first degree or five years of management experience or its equivalent while entry into the Graduate Diploma of Business Administration is either a first degree or completion of the Graduate Certificate of Business Administration .

International students
