ACCRS Station Facilities
Accommodation facilities
Guest facilities include 4 single bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (each comprising of a shower and toilet and shared between 2 rooms), a large communal kitchen with a gas stove, oven, 2 refrigerators/freezers and laundry facilities including both a washing machine and dryer. There is also a communal room with a couch, DVD/video player and an additional bathroom for day users.
Guest facilities are joined via under-cover decking with the combined office and laboratory. Telephone and internet access (satellite broadband) are available in this building.
The site manager and crane operator also live permanently on site in accommodation located approximately 20m away from the guest facilities. This is a one bedroom self contained cottage with verandah including a kitchen, dining/lounge room, shower and toilet and laundry facilities (washing machine only).
Laboratory facilities
The laboratory is currently combined with the office in a 24 hr air-conditioned room. It consists of a small chemicals cupboard, 3 dissecting microscopes (+ light sources), 2 electronic balances, a limited reference library and 3 computers. A large drying oven is also located just outside the laboratory.
For researches wishing to access a sterile laboratory, access can be arranged at the Cairns JCU campus.
Covered work areas in forest
There is a small shed in the forest located near the base of the crane and an undercover bench and chairs. Currently the shed has power supplied only when the crane is in operation and contains a decent size work bench inside. A power upgrade to the site, expected to be completed by the end of 2009, will enable power to this shed on a permanent basis.
