How we can assist your students

The JCU Careers and Employment Service aims to enhance the career awareness and employability of JCU students by:

  • Assisting JCU students with their career planning and development through counselling, career development programs, computer-based career guidance programs, information and resources

  • Developing JCU students' job application skills through workshops, information and a resume checking service

  • Maintaining strong networks with employers and assisting them to recruit JCU students for volunteer, part-time/casual, vacation, course-relevant and graduate vacancies

  • Providing an annual Careers Fair showcasing national, state and local employers

  • Providing JCU students with the opportunities to obtain workplace skills throughout their degree

How we can work with you

The JCU Careers and Employment Service aims to work closely with academic departments to provide careers activities that maximise the employability of JCU students.

We welcome the opportunity to:

  • Present graduate employment preparation workshops to your students

  • Liaise with you in relation to employment programs and employer visits

  • Discuss the integration of career development within your degree programs

  • Actively promote your degree programs to current and prospective students

JCU CareerHub

The JCU Careers and Employment Service utilises the online job vacancy system JCU CareerHub to advertise jobs for students. If external parties regularly contact your department to advertise vacancies to your students, please contact us.

Online Career Development Support

Self paced career planning and job search support is available online for JCU students.

The "Planning Your Next Career Move" site assists students with:

  • Career planning

  • Maximising graduate employment outcomes

  • Identifying personal strengths

  • Information on the labour market and career opportunities

  • Effective job search techniques

  • Producing competitive job applications

  • Performing successfully in interviews

JCU Graduate Destination Information

JCU Graduate Destination Survey 2002 - 2007

The JCU Graduate Destination Survey (GDS) findings for 2002 - 2007 is now available for JCU staff via StaffOnline.

The Graduate Destination Survey is a snapshot of JCU graduates' activities approximately four months after the completion of their studies. It provides useful information on employers of JCU graduates, types of jobs obtained, further study undertaken and median starting salaries.

Generic Skills E-Portfolio

The JCU Careers and Employment Service in association with other university staff is currently trialling an E-portfolio process that will allow students to evaluate and record their skills development over the duration of their degree. If you would like more information please contact us.
