Honours Thesis

Townsville, Cairns HECS Band 1

Consultation as required by supervisor. Full year.

Available to final year education honours students.

Staff: Professor B Davies (Townsville campus); Ms G Shopen (Cairns campus).

Students will conduct a supervised piece of educational research. They will report that research in a thesis written in a style that is appropriate to their chosen research methodology.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to gain extended knowledge of the particular educational topic chosen for research;
  2. to gain competence in analysing educational problems, collecting research data, data analysis and writing of research reports;
  3. to develop the critical skills to assess the roles of teachers in relation to current and emerging educational issues, trends and policies;
  4. to develop a deep understanding of ethics appropriate to the changing role of schools in society;
  5. to gain insights into how to work effectively with the profession and the community;
  6. to develop a professional identity as an educational practitioner which incorporates a sense of inquiry.

Assessment by examination of a thesis submitted in accordance with the School of Education guidelines.
