History’s Past

Townsville, Cairns HECS Band 1

26 hours workshops/seminars. Semester 2.

Available only to level 4 honours students.

This subject provides a critical appreciation of the historical development of the discipline of history from antiquity to the present day. It explores a diversity of ways in which the past has been apprehended and understood across a range of temporal and cultural contexts.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to gain familiarity with the historical development of the discipline of history;
  2. to acquire an understanding of key theoretical and methodological debates that have shaped the evolution of historical scholarship;
  3. to develop skills of research and analysis appropriate to the honours level of study.

Assessment by written assignments (50%); seminar presentation (30%); seminar participation (20%).
