Basic Japanese 1

Townsville, Cairns HECS Band 1

13 hours lectures (video-conferenced to Cairns), 39 hours tutorials (over three intensive workshops in Cairns). Semester 1.

Staff: Mr K Kampmark, Dr G Kutash.

This subject is designed for those who have either completed Foundation Japanese at JCU or have studied Japanese elsewhere, but not quite up to an HSC level.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to equip students with the skills necessary to ask permission and express prohibition; talk about the weather, climate, seasons; discuss skills and abilities; express intentions and desire; ask for directions; communicate effectively in reading and writing on the above topics. Glean simple information from authentic TV/radio broadcast.

Assessment by assignments, in-class tests, oral/aural and written examinations: listening (25%); speaking (25%); reading (25%); writing (25%).
