The subject gives students the opportunity to further develop their journalism skills for possible future foreign correspondence work. The subject involves analysis for the coverage of significant historical events throughout the twentieth century and contemporary “foreign news” in the Australian media. It offers practical experience in local ‘foreign correspondence’ simulations, or, where possible, overseas media outlets.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to further develop students’ knowledge of the principles and practice of journalism by an examination of foreign news;
  2. to identify and develop journalism skills required for foreign correspondence.

Assessment by participation in classes (10%); regular assignments throughout the semester (90%). Foreign news students at level 3 will be required to produce a higher standard of work than those at level 2.
