the recruitment, administration and
on-going support of both undergraduate

students.
Information for International applicants
The International Student Centre (ISC) provides assistance with issues relating to accommodation, visas, tuition fees and Overseas Student Health Cover, as well as with general welfare concerns.
Entry requirements
It is recommended that international applicants contact the ISC for specific
academic entry requirements for all postgraduate programs.
English language requirements
International students must provide evidence of English proficiency
if English is not their first language. English language requirements are detailed
on the
ISC website at:
www.isc.jcu.edu.au/applyingtostudy.cfm
Application procedure
International applicants apply to the ISC, see panel below, for an International
Student Prospectus, which contains an application form. They can also apply online.
Study costs
International students are required to pay the following costs.
Annual tuition fees – this publication shows the fees studying on campus in Australia. Fee details are available in the JCU International Student Prospectus or online at: www.isc.jcu.edu.au/applyingtostudy/fees.cfm
Overseas Student Health Cover – most international students are required to have this health cover, which costs AUD$324 for 12 months or AUD$162 per Teaching period (2005). Norwegian and Swedish students, however, are exempt from this charge.
Association Services Fee – all students are required to pay this fee, which provides a wide range of services and amenities for students.
Financial assistance
Some financial assistance schemes are available for international postgraduate
students, the main ones being:
- • International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) (administered by JCU);
- • AusAID Australian Development Scholarships (administered by the Commonwealth Government) – further information may be obtained online at: www.ausaid.gov.au
Visa information
International Students are required to apply for a student visa before
arriving in Australia. For further information contact your nearest Australian
Embassy,
Consulate or High Commissioner, listed at:
www.dfat.gov.au/missions
Working as a student
Australian immigration regulations require that international students
are enrolled in full-time study mode only. Part-time study mode is not
usually
available to international students unless they are studying on an external
basis from outside Australia.
International students studying under a student visa are eligible to work
up to 20 hours per week during term and full time during study vacation.
Students wishing to work can apply online, once they have commenced study.
