Postgraduate Liaison Officers
Each school at JCU has a designated Postgraduate Liaison Officer (PLO) who is
responsible for organising postgraduate research seminars, and to whom postgraduate
students may go if they have problems.
Postgraduate Student Association
The JCU Postgraduate
Student Association aims to establish social and intellectual
contacts amongst postgraduate students through seminars, workshops and informal
get togethers. It also seeks to promote professional development and represent
student interests to the University. All postgraduate students at JCU are
automatically members of this association, which is affiliated with the
JCU Student Association.

Support for research students
JCU’s Graduate Research
School supports research students with structured
programs that (a) monitor the progress of their research and (b) help them
acquire generic skills in the context of their project and career aspirations.
Research Student Monitors are also appointed to act as ombudsmen throughout
these processes. A statistical consulting service and short courses in statistics
are available to help with data collection, analysis and interpretation.

Postgraduate Bulletin Board
This electronic
bulletin board includes information on: thesis workshops,
part-time
tutoring positions, rental accommodation, social events and more.

Technology & Information Services
JCU provides integrated IT and library facilities and most students
take advantage of the extensive technology resources available to them. All
students
are issued
with a computer account and generous Internet access account. General purpose
computer laboratories are available on all campuses, some open 24 hours, seven
days a week.
IT advice/help desks are located in the Cairns and Townsville libraries, staffed
by highly qualified librarians and technicians to advise students about researching
effectively and making the most of the wealth of electronic resources available.
The JCU Library (in Townsville and Cairns) has over
400 000 books in its collection and over 20 000 current journal titles (over
15 000 available electronically), making it one of the best regional university
libraries in the country. The library prides itself on offering a high standard

JCU’s Students Online service lets students access their enrolment details, lecture timetables, on campus activities and more any time of day. Learn JCU is a web resource for all JCU subjects that provides study resources, noticeboards and discussion forums. InfoHelp is the advice/help desk service for all students for technology issues. InfoHelp also offers classes and short courses about general computing issues and accessing print and electronic information.
