As part of the Division of Tropical Environments and Societies, the College of Science, Technology and Engineering is the home of JCU's expertise in the physical sciences, chemistry, earth sciences, and engineering to form a strong grouping uniquely placed to tackle the grand challenges facing the tropical world.

The College is led by the Dean, Professor Paul Dirks.

Academic groups

  • Intelligent Systems, Information and Modelling Intelligent Systems, Information and Modelling
This group makes use of electronics, control theory, mechatronics, computational and theoretical mathematics, data and data mining, sensor technology and basic physics.
  • Matter and Materials Matter and Materials
The research and teaching activities in the Matter & Materials group are cross-disciplinary and combine chemistry, chemical engineering, physics and material sciences.
  • Earth and Oceans Earth and Oceans
Our research and teaching is international and multi-disciplinary, ranging from the surface of the earth to its deep interior and from the mountaintops to the deep ocean.
  • Infrastructure and Design Infrastructure and Design
We undertake multi-disciplinary research across chemical, civil and mechanical engineering disciplines, with a focus on the design of resilient, efficient and sustainable engineered structures and systems.
