PhD Topic
Understanding the role of the World Heritage brand in attracting visitors to Queensland’s World Heritage National Parks
PhD Dissertation Topic
This project aims to examine in detail the role of the World Heritage brand in attracting visitors to Queensland’s five World Heritage national parks: Fraser Island, the Wet Tropics of Queensland, the Australian Fossil Mammal Sites (Riversleigh), the Great Barrier Reef and the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia (formerly known as the Central Eastern Rainforest Reserves).
Though still in its initial formulation, the specific objectives of this research are to:
-
Identify the use of the World Heritage brand name and emblem by government agencies and tourism businesses.
-
Determine the level of visitor World Heritage brand knowledge, awareness and brand personality at each of Queensland’s five World Heritage Areas.
-
Assess the effectiveness of the World Heritage brand as a visitor motivator to travel to a World Heritage site.
-
Evaluate current World Heritage public awareness strategies by park management and the tourism industry.
-
Review the potential for park management and tourism businesses to better position World Heritage in the visitor’s mind.
Other activities undertaken:
2007: STCRC/MTSRF research assistant – conduct surveys of visitors to the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area
