The Genetic Analysis Facility (GAF) was established at James Cook University in 1998 to provide a first class genetic analysis facility for the north Queensland region and beyond. We continue to increase our throughput and currently use 96 capillary MegaBACE instrumentation to serve the needs of both University and external users.
Our services are based on the electrophoretic separation and fluorescent detection of DNA for sequencing and fragment analysis (genotyping). We provide a service for the analysis of samples prepared by our users for running on the MegaBACE. If you are new to using capillary based systems it is essential you consult with GAF staff regarding appropriate preparation of samples.
The GAF will only accept samples for analysis if accompanied by a sample submission form with an appropriate job number. If you are a current user and have a job number >9061 please use these sample submissions forms:
If you are new user, or a returning user with an expired or obsolete job number, please contact us in order to set up a job number. We can not accept samples for analysis without a current job number.
Your results will be made available via a download web link. In the case of sequencing results, the files can be used with a variety of software. For genotyping results, the GAF will provide software for you to visualise and score your data. If you are unsure of the software requirements please contact us.
