Curriculum Refresh Events
The Curriculum Refresh Project will sponsor the visit of Professor Martin Nakata, on 16 November 2012. His presentation is titled: Decolonial goals and pedagogies for Indigenous studies. There will also be staff development workshops on the theme of embedding Indigenous knowledge. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to register.
The Curriculum Refresh Project sponsored the visit of David Boud, Professor, Learning Cultures & Practices Group and Senior Fellow, Australian Learning and Teaching Council on 21 September 2012. Professor Boud facilitated the following workshops:

Stephen Billett - Learning Through Practice
Professor Stephen Billett visited the Townsville and Cairns campuses in April 2012 to deliver workshops on the theme of learning through practice.
Martin Nakata – sharing Indigenous knowledge
Professor Martin Nakata visited JCU’s Cairns campus on 11 November to share different views on curriculum development. He also led discussion on widening participation and social inclusion.

A breakfast meeting was held on the Townsville campus 25 August 2011. The event provided JCU staff with the opportunity to engage with employers about work-integrated learning and practice-based learning opportunities.
The Cairns employer event was held on 23 November 2011. This was a Cairns local employer/industry breakfast - aimed at employers wished to engage with JCU staff about work-integrated learning opportunities and roles on external reference groups or advisory boards for courses. The event attracted about 60 employers and 30 staff.
Curriculum Refresh Conference 2011
The two day Curriculum Refresh conference was held in the Townsville in April 2011 and featured keynote speakers Stephen Billett and Richard James. The conference provided an opportunity for staff engaged in the Curriculum Refresh Project to share and showcase their work. Read more...
Phil Race – Visiting Fellow
Professor Phil Race visited JCU’s Singapore, Townsville and Cairns campuses in April and May 2011. During his visit Phil delivered a public lecture in Singapore and presented his teaching Masterclass titled: Making Teaching Work to staff in Townsville and Cairns. More about Phil’s visit...
Sally Brown – Visiting Member of Reference Group
ProfessorSally Brown is highly renowned for her strategic work within University settings. Shevisited JCU in April and May 2011 to meet with key stakeholders to discuss managing curriculum renewal - and ways to bring about positive change - in the overall context of our ‘Australia’s University for the tropics’ project.
Sally Kift – Reference Group FYE
ProfessorSally Kift visited JCU in June 2011. Sally was invited to JCU to talk with Curriculum Refresh project members about transition, curriculum development, FYE and final-year capstone subjects. Sally was also invited to give a keynote address at the First Year Experience conference.
Barbara Holland – Service Learning
ProfessorBarbara Holland delivered an interactive workshop on service learning (community-based WIL projects) for JCU staff in July 2011 as part of our Curriculum Refresh Seminar Series.
