The head of Queensland’s Department of Child Safety, Robin Sullivan, was the inaugural lecturer in the JCU Alumni Speakers Program. Robin described the structure and functions of the new department which was established earlier this year amid the ongoing controversy about child safety issues in the state. A former graduate of JCU, Robin, outlined how graduates can be involved in the vital work the department has been charged with. She also put forward her plans for partnerships between university faculties, community organisations and the government to further improve the safety of children. Robin was the former Commissioner for Children and Young People and has spent many years working to protect and nurture Queensland’s most vulnerable children. Both of Robin’s lectures were well attended with students, staff, members of the public and invited guests of local human services organisations present. |
