RIDO - Research Commercialisation


Research commercialisation (or technology transfer) is managed through the Research Innovation and Development Office.

The Office is responsible for providing advice about, and undertaking where appropriate:

  • intellectual property protection,
  • market research and analysis,
  • negotiations with potential business partners,
  • business plan production,
  • securing investment or other funding.

If you have generated information through your research activities that you believe could have commercial application, you should:

If you are managing or participating in a commercial project where confidentiality is an issue (this would include any project where patenting is an option), you should be aware of JCU's Guidelines on Confidentiality in Commercial Projects. The Guidelines include a Checklist, which must be completed by the Project Manager.

RIDO's technology transfer staff are:

  • Jasper Taylor (x4422), the Manager, Technology Transfer is the primary contact for commercial opportunities arising from existing projects, and for:
    • deal negotiation,
    • IP evaluation and protection,
    • start-up company arrangements;

  • [RIDO recently lost its Business Development Manager, the primary contact for new projects, in the re-structure, and the following matters should now also be referred to Jasper:
    • industry liaison and networks,
    • expertise marketing,
    • tender and project coordination.]
