As Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Sally Kift has responsibility for overall strategy in relation to education, academic quality and teaching and learning.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) plays a critical role in working with the faculties and divisions, and also works in collaboration with the Senior Deputy-Vice Chancellor on driving and meeting the University's objectives.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) is also responsible for managing the Directorate of Teaching and Learning Development to ensure that teaching and learning activities are aligned to the University Strategic Intent.

JCU is currently engaged in a major review of its curriculum to ensure it is aligned with the University's strategic intent.The project, Australia's University for the Tropics is supported by $2.8m of funding from the Federal Government's Diversity and Structural Adjustment Fund.
