Research Title:

Management Effectiveness Evaluation of the Marine Protected Area of Socotra Island, Yemen.

Research Interests:

  • Monitoring of coral reefs.

  • Conservation and protection of marine and coastal habitats, particularly coral reefs.

  • Management of marine protected areas, particularly in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

  • Protection of the marine environment from land-based activities.

  • Regional Program Coordinator forthe RegionalProgram of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-Based Activities for the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden (PERSGA in partnership with UNEP), 2005 - to date.

  • National Program Coordinator for a UNEP/GPA Project for the protection of the marine environment from land-based activities in Yemen.

  • National Consultant for development of the National Action Plan for Conservation of Yemeni Coral Reefs.

  • National team leader for monitoring coral reefs in Yemen.

  • Expert Assistant for assessment of sea cucumber fisheries of Yemen.

  • Expert Assistant for assessment of a new oil refinery in Port Sudan, Sudan.

  • Expert Assistant for monitoring of mangroves in Yemen.

  • Expert counterpart at a UNDP/GEF Project for the Protection of the Marine Ecosystem of the Yemeni Red Sea of Yemen.
