Eyes

Student Writing CD

Students of an intensive course in creative writing held at James Cook University Cairns in 2006 have published their work on a CD entitled Through Far Northern Eyes: Stories. Poems, Vignettes. Course lecturer and editor of the CD, Glyn Davies, says:

The richness and variety of the group's experiences, as captured here in their stories and poems, is intriguing. Here is a microcosm, Far North Queensland in the blink of an eye. Here too is evidence of the literary imagination, shaping life as lived into art to be admired, and rejoiced in. The stories range from realism through science fiction to romance and mystery. There are anecdotes and re-imagined fairy tales, stories with twists and stories with both happy and unhappy endings. While one poem may add information and feeling to the story it accompanies, another will stand in contrast to its accompanying story. All these pieces have their own kind of truth, and their own hard-found understanding of the meaning of certain events in their authors' lives.
