Summary: |
Governments have always been tempted to interfere in University affairs because academic work and academic freedom can be very threatening to them. Governments around the world have attacked and repressed University research, publications, teaching and learning. Academics have been arrested and imprisoned. Scholars at Risk (SAR) was set up to counter these attacks. SAR is an international network of Universities and colleges promoting academic freedom and human rights of scholars. It advocates for imprisoned scholars and offers sanctuary to academics and intellectuals at risk. Not only does this benefit the individual scholar, it also boosts the host institution’s research and internationalisation. JCU and the NTEU are offering you an opportunity to find out more about this organisation and its work through an Information Presentation session from SAR’s home institution, New York University. If you can’t attend but would like more information regarding this program, see http://scholarsatrisk.nyu.edu/Beta/About_Scholars_Risk/ |
