Welcome from the Pro-Vice-Chancellor
Welcome to the website of the Faculty of Science, Engineering and IT at James Cook University. As you explore the information here, you will discover why the Faculty has achieved high standing nationally and internationally. The Faculty is an acknowledged research leader in its signature fields of marine science, tropical and conservation biology, the earth sciences, and the environmental sciences. It is also accorded an excellent reputation for the quality of its teaching programs, which feature small classes, learning that is research-led, and an emphasis on practical and field-based experiences.
The two campuses of JCU at which the Faculty is based, Cairns and Townsville, are located in one the great natural landscapes of the world, at the juxtaposition of the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics World Heritage sites. Situated in this outstanding natural laboratory, there can be little surprise that the Faculty is emblematic of JCU’s stated mission to enhance life in the tropics.
Whether you come to this website as a prospective student, as one of our existing students, as someone with an interest in our research programs, or simply out of curiosity to know more about one of Australia’s leading science, engineering and technology faculties, I bid you a warm welcome.
