INFORMATION ABOUT PERMITS

Anyone conducting research in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park is required to obtain a research permit. Applications can be made to either the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) or the Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage (QDEH). A permit from QDEH is required to conduct terrestrial research on Orpheus Island. Research on other islands in the Palm group requires permits from QDEH and/or permission from the Palm Island Aboriginal Council - contact QDEH in the first instance for further information.
