FEES, LICENSES AND PERMITSThe Station must charge bench fees to meet its operating costs. Students receive heavily subsidised rates. The fee includes accommodation, use of laboratory and aquarium facilities, small boats (not dories), scuba tanks, fills and weights. Fees are also charged for dories, Challenger III transport to the mainland and study sites. Australia, Queensland, and the University regulate diving and boating. Requirements for residents and visitors change from time to time and intending visitors should contact the Station for current information. In general visitors wanting to dive or operate boats must demonstrate that they are appropriately qualified, experienced and medically fit for diving. Permits are required for all collecting and manipulative research. Overseas visitors may bring scientific equipment into Australia duty-free, provided they take the equipment out of Australia when departing. This requires advance documentation, without which duty may be charged. There are restrictions on the import and export of biological material. For information on booking click here.
