2009 Bachelor of Exercise Physiology Clinical with Honours

Overview

Description:

Students who demonstrate a strong performance in the Bachelor of Exercise Physiology (Clinical) may qualify for entry into Honours which involves an integrated program of study and research in the fourth year of study. An Honours degree is usually essential for entry to research higher degrees.

JCU also offers masters and doctoral programs to graduates wishing to pursue careers in clinical exercise physiology / sport and exercise science research.

Normal workload expectations are a minimum of 10 hours per week for every subject, including class contact hours, preparation and time spent on assessment tasks.

Students who wish to enter the Honours degree will need to complete the following;

Students should also speak to the Honours Coordinator of the Institute of Sport and Exercise Science to discuss possible transfer into the Honours degree.

Clinical exercise physiology graduates have a wide range of career opportunities, depending on their interests and further study, for example:

  • Private clinical exercise physiology practice

  • Group practice with other allied health professionals (e.g. physiotherapists)

  • Case management for medical insurance/compensation organisations

  • Sports training and rehabilitation

Professional Accreditation

Graduates may be eligible for membership with the Australian Association for Exercise and Sport Science (AAESS). AAESS accreditation may lead to Provider Number status in order that graduates may provide professional clinical exercise physiology services. Note: The University and the Institute of Sport and Exercise Science do not guarantee that graduates will achieve either accreditation or provider status as a result of completing this course.
