JCU turns 40
On 20 April 2010 James Cook University celebrated the 40th Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II personally granting Royal Assent to the James Cook University of North Queensland Bill at the Townsville Campus.
The University College of Townsville was established in 1960 under the auspices of The University of Queensland as a result of fierce lobbying by the North Queensland community and this commitment led to the granting of full University status a decade later. James Cook University of North Queensland was established in 1970 to conduct teaching and research into areas of relevance to the tropics and for the last forty years we have done just that.
Celebrations were held in recognition of our achievements over the last fifty years and looking forward to what James Cook University can achieve by 2050.
Please enjoy this archive of the university and if you have pictures you would like to contribute to add to the gallery we would love to have them. Send to (WHO??) Help us to reconnect with our past students and staff, many of whom are now living around the world.
In addition to celebrating JCU's 40th birthday, 2010 marked
