Welcome
More than 400 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students study with James Cook University across the campuses in Townsville and Cairns and at the study centres in Mackay, Mount Isa and Thursday Island. Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students come from a diverse range of communities – from interstate, urban, rural and remote areas, including the Gulf of Carpentaria, Cape York and the Torres Strait.
Indigenous students are well represented in areas such as education, social sciences and health, and are succeeding in other areas including business, science and law. A growing number of Indigenous students are also undertaking postgraduate studies.
JCU is committed to working towards achieving a sustainable reconciliation between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider community. In 2008 the University adopted a Reconciliation Statement to detail how JCU intends to meet that commitment.
