Extension of Candidature

A PhD candidate is expected to complete the degree in three years (full-time equivalent enrolment) and Masters by Research candidate in two years (full-time equivalent).

If submission of the thesis will be delayed beyond the completion date, candidates should request an extension of time, during the last study period of candidature. This should be done on a Variation of Candidature form and be submitted to the Graduate Research School with Supervisor, Head of School endorsement and appropriate supporting documentation.

International students should be aware that the University is now required to provide the Department of Immigration and Citizenship with more information when issuing a new confirmation of enrolment for a student visa extension. Extensions may only be granted as a result of compassionate or compelling circumstances or as a result of the University implementing an academic intervention strategy.
