Confirmation of Candidature

A full-time PhD candidate is required to present a seminar on the thesis work and submit a substantive piece/s of writing related to the project within the first six months of candidature (twelve months for part-time). A full-time Masters by Research candidate should complete the confirmation process within the first four months of candidature (eight months part-time), unless this was a requirement of their Graduate Diploma of Research Methods program.

The School Postgraduate Liaison Officer (or School Manager) will organise the seminar and distribute copies of the project proposal to the Head of school, Supervisor(s), Graduate Research School and Research Student Monitor.

The Supervisory Committee should meet with the candidate after the seminar to review the candidate’s progress and to provide feedback on the project proposal, supervisory arrangements and resources available.

The candidate and the Supervisory Committee should complete the Confirmatio n of Candidature Report form after the meeting.
