A small note on file formats
Although there are many different video formats doing the rounds on the web, we have chosen to use only *avi files. Generally, Avi files have little compression and have a clearer image than other web based formats (i.e. Mpeg). However, as a result, they tend to be larger in size and take longer to download.

A small note on video sizes
The video files below are generally presented in two sizes, half size (352x288) or quarter size (176x144). As above, this is related to file size and download time. While the larger size is easier to view, the file size is essentially double that of the quarter size. The size that you choose will be dependent upon your modem speed, or how long you wish to sit and wait for the clip to download.

Please pick your preferred file format.
We recommend half screen (352x288) if you have a fast modem and quarter screen (176x144) if you have a slow modem.

Nematocysts discharging
These three clips show nematocysts along a section of tentacle from Carukia barnesi discharging after artificial stimulation. The image has been filmed through a microscope and is magnified about 400 times.
