Study dates
Teaching Periods
The academic year in Australian universities generally runs from February to November. Study Abroad students at JCU commence their studies either in late February or in late July.
The academic year at JCU is broadly divided into two Teaching Periods (or semesters):
Teaching Period 1 (January to June)
Teaching Period 2 (July to December)
Each Teaching Period includes: 13 weeks of classes; a one-week study vacation; a three-week examination period.
Study Periods
Spread across the Teaching Periods are a number of Study Periods, each with its own start and end date, census date, date for withdrawal without academic penalty and date of release of subject results. The main study periods are:
Study Period 1 (generally late February to late June)
Study Period 2 (generally late July to late November)
Field trips and block-mode subjects can be offered in different study periods.
Orientation Program
All international students at JCU have a one-week student orientation program before the start of classes.
Exam period
As an international student you need to be aware that final examinations cannot be re-scheduled. Therefore, you should not pre-book your travel to depart from JCU until after the last day of the exam period.
