What our undergraduate students say…

Murad ABAKAROV (Russia) Bachelor of Tourism Management “In my first months of studying the university staff were helpful with helping me find my way around and get acclimatised in a new atmosphere. The rhythm of life in QLD is pretty slow and laid back and I didn’t really find any difficulty adapting to it. Australia has an amazing nature and a wide range of attractions. Life here is probably similar to anywhere else in the Western world but not as busy or full on. I will use my degree in tourism management that I receive here to get an opportunity to find a prospective job anywhere in the world, something that could be interesting, exciting and allow me to travel a lot. “ |

Jessica NILSSON (Sweden) Bachelor of Science (Marine Biology) “The atmosphere here is very relaxed and the lecturers and professors are very approachable. I spend quite a bit of time at university per week but generally I find it much more flexible to study at university level here compared to in Sweden. Being a student in Townsville is great and it is easy to find accommodation. I booked into a hostel for the first couple of nights but already after two days I had found a house to share right by the beach! There are plenty of activities to take part in, both on campus as well as in and around the city which has a lot to offer. There are many international students on campus and I had no problem adjusting and become part of the community. I really like it here and if you are thinking about studying abroad – don’t hesitate to take the leap, it’s great!” |

Alex WARD (United Kingdom) Bachelor of Business (Marketing) “Choosing a university is never an easy task especially when you are thousands of miles away (made easy by a user friendly web site!). I initially applied to JCU because of the course on offer, as I was very interested in studying a Business degree that majored in E-Business and JCU was one of only a few that offers that. Enrolling in JCU was more than just a uni choice, it was a lifestyle choice in itself. Moving away from the cold to a tropical paradise to study was a dream come true. I found that it was a relaxed friendly environment and the International Student Centre held your hand as little or as much as you needed. The staff are fantastic and I love the fact that you are able to knock on your lecturers’ door to see them straight away instead of having to wait weeks. I chose to do one semester in Townsville and then move to Cairns. However, I love Townsville and have made a great number of friends here, its home!” |

Choity AHMED (Sweden) Bachelor of Business (Tourism Management) “The best things I have liked about JCU are the very helpful teachers and staff on campus. They always want to see the students succeed and pass their subjects. For me personally, it gives me even more motivation. And then the environment, small things as having the bush turkeys walking around on campus is so cool for me, we don’t really have that back in Sweden. As far as Townsville is concerned it is a very small city compared to what I am used to, but there is definitely a charm about it. I love the fact that you can just take the ferry over to Magnetic Island on a free day and just enjoy the amazing tropical environment and the clear-blue water, or you can just enjoy Townsville down at the beautiful Strand. I have made some really good friends here in such a short time. I’m loving it! If you are looking for a good university with high standards and great teachers, not to mention the tropical environment with almost eternal sunshine, then JCU is an excellent choice!” |
