What our study abroad students say…

Katelyn MURRAY (USA) Psychology/Criminal Justice major “I heard about JCU through a friend and liked the sound of the location and the activities on offer. It’s been great to learn about Australia and meet lots of new people. I’ve had the chance to do a lot of things here that I wouldn’t have done anywhere else, including bungy jumping, sky diving, seeing the Daintree rainforest and patting a kangaroo! The atmosphere on the Cairns campus has been friendly and welcoming. My lecturers were always helpful, and responded to emails promptly. I’m glad I came early in my degree studies, because I could fit in some interesting subjects like Australian history and Indigenous Australian studies.” |

Michael KOTZEN (USA) Tourism major “You can’t get much further from Boston than northern Queensland! My time here has been awesome. It’s been a privilege to take classes and get to know Australian students. Everyone has been very welcoming. Study Abroad forces you to step outside your comfort zone – to a different culture, teaching experience, food etc. I will never forget my first dive on the Great Barrier Reef – that opened up a whole different perspective on the world! JCU has a great range of study areas on offer. This meant that I could make up some prerequisites for back home plus take some interesting electives. A couple of classes were really inspiring and have encouraged me to do more art history and literature.” |

Andrea WIRSING (Germany) Microbiology major “Leaving home in winter and arriving in summer on a day that was 40ºC was a nice change! The lifestyle in Townsville and the friendly atmosphere at James Cook University made it easy to adapt to and enjoy my new part-time home and life. The practical parts of my studies were quite valuable to my degree. It is an opportunity I won’t forget and it has changed my life in a positive way.” |
