Applying to work in Australia

As a student in Australia you can apply for permission to work. A student work visa permits you to work for:

  • 20 hours per week during university study periods

  • unlimited hours during university vacation periods.

To apply for a student work visa, you first need confirmation from the International Student Centre (ISC) that you have commenced study at JCU. You can do this online or with a paper application form. Once the ISC has confirmed your study commencement, you can apply for the visa online or submit the application form via mail. Both the online form and application form are available on the Department of Immigration and Citizen website.

It is very important to apply for a work permit before commencing any type of work in Australia as there are strict government regulations and penalties in this area.
