Entry dates and teaching periods at JCU
The JCU academic year consists of two teaching periods:
-
Teaching Period 1 (February to June)
-
Teaching Period 2 (July to November).
Enrolment into these teaching periods is finalised during the James Cook University Orientation program that runs in the week prior to commencement of studies.
The majority of your subjects will either fall in Teaching Period 1 or Teaching Period 2, which comprises 13 weeks of teaching with a one-week mid-semester recess. A one-week student vacation is also set aside before the end-of-semester examination period.
As you will require a student visa to undertake studies at James Cook University, you are encouraged to apply for admission well in advance of your intended starting date.
Please note: the visa application process can take several weeks, and so we recommend that you apply to JCU at least eight weeks prior to the start of any given semester. Postgraduate (Research) applicants should look to extending this lead time a further 4 weeks.
Further information on the Student Visa application procedure can be obtained from the nearest Australian Diplomatic Post in your country.
