Internet Accounting

Internet Traffic Other Than Web Browser Traffic

Internet traffic you generate from programs other than your Web browser passes through the JCU Firewall. For the Firewall to open a path to the Internet and account for traffic, you first have to authenticate your username and password with the Firewall before running the program.

To authenticate with the Firewall browse to http://authenticate.jcu.edu.au/ to enter your username and password, then your program should run. This authentication will have to be repeated after one hour of inactivity.

Some programs such as RealPlayer and ICQ require additional configuration to operate through the Firewall. Please see http://www.jcu.edu.au/internetaccounting/details.shtml

Charging rates for non-web traffic

Non-web traffic is charged the same was as web traffic, except there is no chance of getting a file for free from the proxy cache. See Usage rates for details.
