Internet Accounting

Internet Accounting for Undergraduates

Students are allocated a quota to allow pursuit of their academic and research endeavours.

If required, additional pre-paid quota may be purchased.

Once an individual student's enrollement is processed they will be allocated $5.00 worth of Internet quota. At the start of the teaching period for the subject this quota will be superseded by a new quota based on your subject units load. Quota is allocated such that a normal full-time load results in $24.00 for the year.

Unused quota will not be taken away when subjects are completed, but if you withdraw from a subject, then the quota will drop by the amount that the subject's units contributed.

Quota is allocated fro the entire year, but not from one year to the next, while students continue with JCU.

During early February of each year, balances and quotas will be reset to their appropriate initial values for each user for the new year.

The new S1 student database will be used to calculate subject points per student and thus quota per student. This information will update the Internet Accounting database periodically.

Purchasing Quota

Students will be required to pre-pay for bandwidth in excess of quota. For example, if a student has quota of $10 for a year they can pre-pay an additional $10 to bring the total allocation up to $20. Student access to the Internet will be automatically withdrawn once quota is exceeded, but on-campus network usage will be unaffected.

Resources Office has advised that there will be no mechanism to claim unused subject-based or ePouch (paid) quota once paid, even at the end of a degree. Any unexpended funds are retained by JCU to defray JCU costs associated with administrative arrangements associated with this service. So care should be taken in only making payments for quota that you are likely to use.

Students may acquire paid Internet access credit at either:

When Internet access quota and credit is used up, the student account will be refused Internet access until additional credit is purchased. However, the existing session will remain active until it is logged off.

Postgraduate students are normally covered by the staff mechanism, but they may also purchase additional quota via the cashiers, as noted above. Payments will only be accepted by the cashier for students with current enrollment.

Allow one day for the pre-paid credit purchase to be transferred from the JCU Finance System into the Internet accounting system for your use.

Students may now also make payments via creditcard using StudentsOnline.
