Graduate Diploma of Conflict and Dispute Resolution

Description:

The Graduate Diploma and Conflict and Dispute Resolution course is designed to provide an introduction to the practical skills and theory for working with conflicts and disputes. The course builds foundation capacities through its core units of Conflict and Dispute Analysis and Negotiation and extends the capability of students through a range of electives. Streams of study can be selected from the electives to tailor a program that suits your challenges. Areas of concentration include mediation, commercial and workplace disputes and international level conflict analysis and resolution. Students are required to undertake 6 subjects. Successful completion can provide a pathway to the Masters of Conflict and Dispute Resolution.

1 year full-time or part-time

Mode:

Block mode (some subjects are available in external mode). International students must contact the Faculty Student Office before selecting subjects offered in external mode.

Workload:

Normal workload expectations are a minimum of 10 hours per week for every subject, including class contact hours, preparation and time spent on assessment tasks.

o Credit points: Represent the combined value of individual subjects in a degree. One subject usually constitutes three credit points.

2010 Timetable

Note:

Government legislation limits the number of external mode subjects International Students studying in Australia under a Student Visa can take. Therefore, this course is not available to International Student Visa holders. International students must contact the Faculty office before selecting subjects offered in external mode.

Other Information

Flexible class hours – Our classes are offered in intensive blocks of two and three days, including over weekends and on evenings generally from 8:30am to 5:00pm or 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

Locations – All subjects and courses are taught from the Townsville campus.

Australian Students:

Direct entry into the Master of Conflict and Dispute Resolution, Graduate Diploma of Conflict and Dispute Resolution and Graduate Certificate of Conflict and Dispute Resolution require an undergraduate degree in any discipline or a Graduate Diploma or other qualifications or practical experience which we recognise as being relevant to the program.

Enrolment is open to students from any discipline and subjects can be taken as electives where permitted in the degree being studied.

Students should aim to have the Application for Postgraduate Coursework submitted a month before commencement of subjects.

International Students:

In addition to academic admission requirements for Australian Students, applicants need to demonstrate proficiency in the English language. For further information, consult JCU’s International Student Prospectus, available from the International Student Centre.

Advanced Standing

Advanced Standing for Prior Learning may be available for other postgraduate studies where the completed subjects are equivalent to the Dispute Resolution program. Any advanced standing will be assessed in accordance with JCU's Policy for Advanced Sanding and Required Prior Learning.

Should you wish to apply please complete an Application for Advanced Standing (Credit for previous studies form) and submit it to the Faculty office with a certified copy of your academic record and subject outlines. This is not necessary for studies completed at JCU.
