Biography

Professor Wolfgang Fischer studied Economics, History and Law at the Universität des Saarlandes, Saarbrücken, and at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn (Germany). He was awarded Dr.rer.pol. (Doctorate in Economics) in 1971 from the Faculty of Law & Economics, Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, where he had been Academic Assistant at the Institute of Economic Policy and International Trade. From 1975 until his retirement in 2000 he had been University Professor of Economics, specialised in Consumer Affairs, and Head of the Institute of Labour and Consumer Research at the University of Bremen. Professor Wolfgang Fischer was Visiting Professor among other universities at the University of San Francisco and the University of Guelph, Canada. Professor Fischer joined James Cook University in the Department of Economics as Visiting Professor in July 1992. In 2004 he became Adjunct Professor of Economics in the School of Law.
