English requirements

Overseas students are required to provide proof of strong ability in spoken and written English before being granted admission. The university recognizes several international tests such as IELTS and TOEFL. It is advisable to have the TOEFL score reported direct to JCU; the University's Designated Institution Code is 9811.

For students intending to pursue an undergraduate or postgraduate (Coursework) program, the School requires a minimum IELTS of 6.0, with no component lower than 5.5. Alternatively, a TOEFL [paper-based] score of 550 (with a minimum Test of Written English score of 4.0) or a TOEFL [computer based test] score of 213 (with an essay rating of at least 4.0).

For postgraduate research students, the School requires a minimum IELTS of 6.5, with no component lower than 6.0. Alternatively, a TOEFL [paper-based] score of 570 (with a minimum Test of Written English score of 4.5) or a TOEFL [computer based test] score of 230 (with an essay rating of at least 4.5).
