The School has expertise in the biology and taxonomy of tropical marine invertebrates. The important groups of focus are crustaceans and molluscs. At present, the primary focus is the phylogeny and taxonomy of crustaceans and molluscs and the functional biology of particular groups including decapod crustaceans. A recent initiative has been to have a joint appointment in taxonomy with the Museum of Tropical Queensland (Dr Nigel Bruce).

On-going Research Programs:

  • Brachyuran crustacean phylogeny and functional morphology: Dr Orpha Bellwood.

  • Taxonomy of pericarids (eg. Amphipods and isopods) Dr Nigel Bruce.
