Abstract:

Fish and invertebrates are stocked worldwide to enhance fisheries and for conservation purposes. Population level demographic consequences of stocking have rarely been examined and few studies investigate the success of enhancement programs largely because it can be difficult to trace stocked individuals. In this seminar, she will examine assemblage and population structure after stocking in several river systems, as well as whether stocked fish can be recovered. She also investigate the use of natural otolith elemental signatures as a means for tracing stocked fish, as well as several other cost-effective and efficient methods involving fluorescent compounds and enriched stable isotopes. The methods are also applicable for answering ecological questions related to connectivity and dispersal of organisms.
