Additional Information for Critical Care Nursing Applicants

Employment Requirements

Registered Nurses undertaking the Critical Care majors must be currently employed in a critical care environment (current employment statement required).

Clinical Requirements

The Intensive Care and Cardiac Nursing subjects have clinical practice requirements, with students required to be concurrently employed in a critical care unit.Completion of clinical competencies will be facilitated by the employing hospital under a suitably-qualified preceptor.

Preceptor Requirements (Intensive Care/Cardiac subjects)

To facilitate your studies, you need to identify an appropriately qualified person in your workplace to act as a preceptor. Your preceptor needs to be someone preferably with a postgraduate qualification or equivalent, or someone who has more than 10 years experience in a Coronary Care/Intensive Care environment. Your preceptor will need to sign a clinical support agreement and provide a copy of their CV. This is important for communication and for the University to be satisfied that you have appropriate support available.

Advanced Standing

Queensland Health TPNEP Emergency, Intensive Care, Cardiac, High Dependency, Paediatric (Intensive/Acute Care) Programs are eligible for 6 credit points RPL (NS5001 + one specialty subject).An application for advanced standing form is required, together with certified copies of your completed TPNEP Certificate and Student Transcript.
