Introduction
The Advanced Analytical Centre (referred to as the AAC) is a central facility within James Cook University. It provides instrumental analysis to the university and analytical and consulting services to external customers. The AAC is the applications laboratory for Varian in Northern Australia for ICP.

- Trace elemental analysis of marine and fresh waters
- Analysis of trace & major elements in process ores & geological materials
- Phase characterisation of process and geological materials
- Elemental analysis of other materials
- Semi-quantitative elemental analysis
- Biological & material investigations using electron microscopy
- Micro elemental analysis using the electron probe
- Genetic analysis
- Service, repair and design of electronic equipment.
- Service and repair of optical microscopes
