Communications Infrastructure Unit - Voice Services

James Cook University's telephone communication systems are mainly provided by Ericsson MD110 technology. These systems are used at both Townsville and Cairns, and cater to approximately 3,500 extensions and 100 both-way exchange lines.

These two campuses are interconnected using Voice over IP ( Voip) so all JCU to JCU calls between Douglas and Smithfield do not attract carrier charges.

Staff

The front line of any telephone system is always the switchboard and in Townsville we have Glenda Baggio and Debbie Preston, ably assisted by June Pryor. At Cairns we have Eda Wetherall and Beth Barnes and they are supported by Lyn Newson.

On the technical side, at Townsville, Graeme Etherton does installation of telephone and data at all Townsville sites and in Cairns Gary Gulliford manages to fit in any telephone alterations and programming in between his hectic audio visual schedule. Gary is supported by Kym Modra for two days of the week.
