Macintosh System 6
Most Macintosh computers use System 7. Only very old Macs or ones using old non-standard software cannot use the newer system. The version of System 6 which should be run is 6.08.
System software version 6.0.8 includes printer drivers that are also compatible with System 7. This makes it possible for Macintosh computers running System 6 to share printers on a network with computers running System 7. Be sure to install the drivers with the Installer to ensure the Print Monitor will work. Please note that you can't install 6.0.8 with a network install.
The System 7 TrueType extension is fully compatible with version 6.0.8. Version 6.0.8 is also compatible with LaserWriter Driver versions 6.0.2 and 7.1.1.
System 6.0.8 shipped with Finder 6.1.8, LaserWriter/LaserWriter Prep 7.0, and MultiFinder 6.0.8.
System 6.0.8 was tested with the Apple IIe Card v2.0, and SNA 1.1 Gateway.
According to Apple you can use 6.0.8 on the following Macintosh computers:
