Services aims to advance research
at James Cook University through the provision of high quality
administrative
services and support to enhance the management, development and
promotion of
research, knowledge transfer and innovation.
The vision of
Research Services
is to
advance the reputation and performance of JCU
as a major international
research
university
focussing on tropical research issues.
- We aim to provide an
integrated “one-stop”
service to our clients based on a supportive, efficient, accurate,
timely and
reliable professional approach to research management.
- We will promote and
encourage high calibre
research of special importance and benefit to people living in the
tropics.
- We acknowledge a special
responsibility to
ensure high ethical standards are maintained in research endeavours.
- We will conscientiously
ensure compliance
with internal and external regulations and codes of research practice.
- We will deliver
best-practice in research
management by developing and disseminating research policies,
facilitating the
evaluation and reporting of research performance, and implementing
quality
assurance protocols to advance JCU’s research reputation.
- We will promote a culture of
trust and
respect among and between the JCU personnel, business and the wider
community
through the protection of rights and interests of the university,
researchers
and research students.
Organisation
The
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation),
Professor Norman Palmer, has responsibility for the
management
of research at JCU. The DVC R&I
also provides strategic advice to the University’s Senior Management on
research policy and research opportunities and chairs the Research
Committee.
Research
Services is part of the Research
and Innovation Division. Research
Services comprises the Research
Office and the Research
Innovation and Development Office.

The Research
Office facilitates the
management of research (grants, ethics, information systems, policy,
annual
reports).
The Research
Innovation and Development
Office adds value to the intellectual capital assets of the
university,
through
protection and commercialisation of appropriate research activity.
