New Extension Numbers at JCU
Internal calling will change with the introduction of the AVAYA VOIP system.
We currently use a 4 digit dialling plan at both Douglas and Smithfield. With the growth of the University we are running out of numbering combinations, especially in Cairns. We will be converting to a 5 digit numbering plan with the deployment of the new AVAYA handsets and begin using the 5th digit of a telephone number. (Note that this applies only to the new AVAYA handsets. The old Ericsson handsets will not be changing. They will remain using 4 digits until they are retired.)
The move to a 5 digit extension allows us to increase the number of extensions at JCU. This is important for future growth and the inclusion of the Singapore Campus.
With 5 digits, your extension number will be the last 5 digits of your phone number instead of the last 4. External callers will not notice any changes. This is for internal dialling only.
Townsville will use 1xxxx, Cairns will use 2xxxx and all system features will use 4xxxx. 0 will still be used for calling outside JCU. External faxes and numbering of letterheads will remain unchanged.
Townsville
In Townsville this means adding a 1 to the front of an extension. If your current extension is 4015 on the new system, it will be 14015. This will not affect the in-dial numbers, the number will still be 07 4781 4015.
For example:
Townsville the Infohelp extension number will become 15500 instead of 5500.
Townsville Infohelp’s external number will still be 07-47815500.
Cairns
In Cairns this means adding a 2 to the front of an extension. If your current extension is 1064 on the new system it will be 21064. This will not affect the in-dial numbers, the number will still be 07 4042 1064.
For example:
Cairns Infohelp’s extension number will become 21777 instead of 1777.
Cairns Infohelp’s external number will still be 07-40421777.
Other Number Changes
These numbers will apply only on the NEW AVAYA Phones.
The operator
The new number for the operator will be 91.
Security Emergency Numbers
The new Security number will be 99.
